The Office of Academic Affiliations, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is now accepting applications for a two-year VA funded program for researchers (MD or PhD) with an optional third year of funding. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. The Fellowship site is located within the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System, War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC). The WRIISC interdisciplinary program aims to provide M.D.'s or Ph.D.’s in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience or other applicable disciplines with clinical experience and research training to become outstanding researchers in high-priority areas of healthcare. The Fellow will analyze data from clinical trials examining behavioral interventions for treating posttraumatic stress disorder and chronic pain. Candidates should have an interest in the mechanism of action of interventions, with an emphasis on processes related to cognition (sleep, memory consolidation), or autonomic nervous system function. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in applied research, integrative health, or rehabilitation methods. The Fellowship would be suitable for candidates with a background in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, physiological psychology or similar fields of study. Fellows will conduct studies and analyze data that will create the foundation for future treatments, and will develop innovative tools and measures for novel approaches to healthcare.
The Fellowship can begin any time, and a 2-year commitment is preferred. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
