Past Initiatives

Drowsy Driving

The Sleep Research Society supports the passage of drowsy driving legislation across the United States. The SRS Board of Directors has endorsed a model drowsy driving legislation based on recommendations from the SRS Task Force on Sleep and Public Policy. The SRS also offers a variety of resources to help pass laws against drowsy driving on a state level.

Resident Work Hours

The Sleep Research Society supports legislative measures to impose limits on resident work hours across the United States. Shifts lasting more than 24 hours greatly increase the risk of injury to physicians-in-training and their patients. In 2004, the Sleep Research Society assembled the SRS Presidential Task Force on Sleep and Public Policy to develop model legislation and recommendations regarding physician-in-training work hours.
