The Sleep Research Society has a major commitment to fostering the development of individuals who may pursue a career in sleep research. Whether you are interested in learning more about sleep or if you are interested in pursuing a career in sleep research, this site has a number of resources for you.
SRS Trainee Day
Every year, the Sleep Research Society sponsors a Trainee Day at the annual SLEEP meeting. During this event, trainees at every level (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, and beyond) are offered seminars in basic principles of sleep research, as well as workshops for creating a CV, getting a research job, and other topics to help with career advancement and professional development. There is also a keynote address, given by a leader in the field of sleep research. Another facet of Trainee Day is the career fair, where institutions seeking graduate students, interns and postdocs advertise employment and educational opportunities. This event allows Trainee Day attendees to meet faculty and students from a wide range of institutions.
We look forward to seeing you at the next Trainee Day!
Trainee Manual
Individuals looking for a position in sleep research as a graduate student, postdoctoral fellow or a research assistant should consult the trainee manual. Sleep labs post information about their focus and activities as well as what they are looking for in trainees. This valuable tool allows individuals to compare training programs throughout the United States that may be compatible with their interests.
Trainee Travel Awards
One of the highlights of the annual SLEEP meeting for SRS members are the Trainee Travel Awards, which are presented to the top abstracts submitted by trainees. These prestigious awards are meant to help to offset the cost of attending the SLEEP meeting.
