Greetings to all SRS members and welcome to the first edition of the SRS President’s blog. In the coming months, I will use this blog as my platform for sharing the progress of initiatives by our leadership, by committees and by SRS members.
I would like to begin our first conversation by sharing with you some data that was presented to the Board at our November meeting. The presentation illustrated the remarkable diversity of our membership, as you can see in this map of where our members are located:
While you can see that the majority of you are located within the United States, we are pleased to note that about a quarter of our members come from the international sleep research community. We are privileged to have such a wide-ranging collection of researchers contributing to our society. I would also like to share with you a map of where our U.S. members are concentrated.
Whether you are a researcher based in California or Hong Kong, I invite you to offer your thoughts on how we can strengthen our society. We are seeking new ideas from members on how we can best position ourselves in this changing research landscape.
I also encourage you to submit your work to the APSS for SLEEP 2014. Deadlines are rapidly approaching for session proposals (Dec. 2) and abstract submissions (Dec. 16). The annual meeting is a terrific opportunity to showcase your findings from this year. You can submit your research at the APSS SLEEP 2014 website www.sleepmeeting.org.
I would love to hear your comments, please email them to me at email@example.com.
May you have a safe and happy holiday season,
