The SRS recognizes trainee abstracts of exceptional quality by presenting trainees with Merit-Based Travel Awards. Winners will receive a financial award, intended to alleviate the cost of travel to the annual SLEEP meeting. Trainees may also have the opportunity to gain exposure and experience by giving a short oral presentation of their work in a forum with fellow trainees and senior faculty.
Merit-Based Travel Awards are primarily intended to further the career development of students who are actively pursuing an academic degree, or who are in the early stages of postgraduate training in sleep.
To apply for a Merit-Based Travel Award, applicants must submit an abstract to SLEEP 2014. During the abstract submission process the trainee will have an opportunity to indicate that they wish to be considered for this award. No additional materials are required.
Abstracts must be submitted to the SLEEP 2014 abstract website by December 16, 2013.
Merit-Based Travel Awards will be judged competitively based on the applicant's abstract. The dollar amount of these Awards will depend on the total number of awards given. Award winners will be notified via e-mail by March 27, 2014. Individuals that accept these awards are required to attend the 2014 SRS-Sponsored Trainee Symposia Series held May 31-June 4, 2014 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. No exceptions will be made to this requirement. Individuals may apply for a Merit-Based Travel Award, a First Time Trainee Travel Award, and/or an Undergraduate Award; however, the applicant may accept only one of the awards.
