| Nominations Procedure |
(currently under review by the Nominations Task Force) The Sleep Research
Society Nominations Procedures for committees and Board positions are as
follows:
1. For appointed positions on committees, the Nominations Committee
(made up of the Past President and four section heads) will recommend members to
the Board of Directors. The Board then has the discretion to make selections
independent of these recommendations.
2. For elected positions, the
Nominations Committee will send out a request to SRS members to nominate SRS
members for the position(s). This nominating slate will be considered by the
Nominations Committee, along with any recommendations from the members of that
committee. They will then select 2 nominees to run for the position, plus one
backup in the case that one of the two nominees cannot or will not run for
election. This recommendation will then go to the Board of Directors, who then
has the power to select two nominees independent of the Nominations Committee
recommendations. The final two nominees will be contacted by the SRS President
to ascertain their willingness to run for the position. In the case that one of
the nominees elects not to run, the President will contact the alternate
candidate, selected by the Board. If, by any means, there are not two nominees
on the ballot, the Board will select another nominee until there are two.
Ballots will then be sent out to all SRS members with voting rights, and the
candidate with the most votes will be appointed to the position.
