The Research Committee is responsible making recommendations to the Board regarding the society’s policies and activities relating to research. The Committee encourages research, coordinates professional responses to research issues, and addresses general research-related matters. In addition, the Committee oversees the implementation and evaluation of the junior faculty development program to financially support the appointment of junior faculty dedicated to sleep research.
Activities
- Develop overall program of research to be funded by the SRS
- Recommend method to finance research-related activity, including junior faculty development program
- Notify members regarding non-government research opportunities
- Recommend research findings to be published in scientific journals
- Study and evaluate basic research needs of the profession
- Recommend and draft responses to research issues
- Liaise with NIH committees, advisory boards and task forces on research related issues of relevance to sleep medicine
- Recommend recipient for the Young Investigator Award
- Recommend junior faculty development program criteria and guidelines
- Develop evaluation process to determine effectiveness of junior faculty development program
- Promote research related activities and develop material highlighting achievements of award recipients
- Develop process to evaluate applicants for grants and awards and make recommendation to Board regarding recipients
- Address issues relating to animal care and ethics, as requested
